The Persian magus Ostanes used divination magic on water, axes, lamps, basins, the air, and stars, to connect the living with the ancestors’ spirits. 

Discs are a common feature of ancient jewellery, referencing shields, and offering symbolic protection, with the Ostanes Earrings including influences from triangular Etruscan detailing and Roman shield adornment from the 2-3 C. AD.
