Emilia Lanier was a contemporary of Shakespear’s (theorised to be the mysterious and alluring “Dark Lady” of his sonnets) and one of the first feminist writers in English history. She was influenced by classical authors, as well as Christine de Pizan, after whom the Pizan Earrings are named.
