Alembic Essentia

Cleopatra the Alchemist was a 3rd century AD Greek alchemist, writer, and philosopher who is best remembered today for her practical contributions to alchemy. She has been lauded, along with three other women alchemists, as having succeeded in the quest for the philosopher's stone. Other accounts attribute the discovery of the alembic to her; it is an apparatus central to the process of distillation.

Into this bulbous vessel are poured the essentia–the raw materials from which the stuff of life and wisdom are formed.

Cleopatra was but one of a long line of female and male alchemists, who dedicated themselves to the creation of the divine from the elemental. Centuries later, the analyst Carl Jung took up these philosophical and scientific writings, drawing a parallel between the alchemical process and the individuation and maturation of the psyche and soul.
